We are proud of the many green initiatives we implement / practice in the hotel and restaurant. It all started a while back with a property wide recycling program, progressed to having the property retrofitted to accommodate energy efficient light bulbs and has sequentially developed from there.
Some of the initiatives we feature include the installation of our solar panels in December of 2010 (making us the first solar powered hotel in Golden), installing an occupancy monitoring system for our guest rooms and adding motion sensor lighting to various locations.
We apply our devotion to being environmentally sustainable in as many aspects as possible throughout our property. For example our guest room keycards are made of wood and are 100% PVC free- this alone reduces the hotels’ carbon footprint by 50%.
We offer reusable water bottles for purchase (portion of the proceeds benefit the Colorado Carbon Fund) and have infused water at our front desk to fill them with! Did you know that in North America, 2.5 million plastic bottles are thrown away per hour and a plastic bottle begins composting around 700 years after it is dumped into a landfill? Recycling a plastic bottle saves enough energy to keep a 60-watt light bulb lit for 6 hours, however sadly only about 20% of plastic bottles are recycled a year.
For our efforts in sustainability we were the 2011 City of Golden Sustainability Award Winner, the 2011 Recipient of the Eco-Excellence Award through Choice Hotels International and by the Colorado Hotel & Lodging Association (CHLA) as the 2nd place recipient for Lewis Hotels with our sister property.
Owners of the hotel, along with management and team members, are very committed to this effort and will consistently continue to enhance our green initiatives.
