Denver, the capital of Colorado, is the most populated city in the state and the 24th most populated city in the U.S. Founded in 1858, Denver is located just 15 miles east of the Rocky Mountain Foothills and is nicknamed the Mile High City, due to its elevation of exactly one mile (5280 feet) above sea level.
Denver hosts more than 300 days of sunshine per year, making it an outdoor haven.
Denver, in addition to its bicycle lanes, has 850 miles of paved, off road bike paths making it well known as a bicycle friendly city. Denver features over 200 parks in addition to the 14,000 acres of Mountain Parks the city began acquiring in the early 1900’s. This includes Red Rocks Park, home of the famous Red Rocks Amphitheatre. Denver also has 29 recreation centers located throughout the city.
Denver has a team to represent all of the 8 major sports, it is one of the only two cites in the nation to do so. This Includes the DenverBroncos- NFL, ColoradoRockies-MLB, DenverNuggets- NBA and the ColoradoAvalanche- NHL. It is also the only city to have built three new stadiums in the last ten years.
Denver is first in the Nation in terms of Beer production per capita- second in terms of breweries. Denver’s brewing history dates back to the 1800’s and is home to the annual Great American Beer Festival, making it only fitting that the city’s first permanent structure was a saloon.
